Priorities in astronomy

Article Abstract:

The 2001 decadal review that lists which instruments should be built over the next decade, along with estimates of their cost, has come under increasing strain and forced the delay or 'indefinite postponement' of most of the projects. Astronomers trying to restore some simplicity to the review are compelled to revisit their widely admired system for ranking large projects that would go some way towards ensuring its continued relevance in astronomy's post-inflammatory epoch.

Various cooperation and small size atmosphere are found to be the backbone of the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), an organization that funds large number of researches. MRC provides a sense of freedom, security and multi-disciplinary to its scientists.
