Article Abstract:
Experiments are conducted to examine the mechanism by which meiosis-specific transcripts are selectively removed if expressed during vegetative growth in fission yeast. It is proposed that the master meiosis-regulator Mei2 turns off the cis-acting region of the messenger RNAs bound to the YTH-family protein Mmi1 (DSR-Mmi1) system by sequestering Mmi1 to the dot formed by Mmi2 at meiotic prophase and thereby secures stable expression of meiosis-specific transcripts.

Article Abstract:
The fission yeast cohesin protein Rec8 is shown to appear in the centromeres and adjacent chromosome arms during the pre-meiotic S phase, where it persists during meiosis I and disappears at anaphase of meiosis II. This persistence is proposed to maintain sister-chromatid cohesion and its presence orients kinetochores so that sister chromatids can travel to the same pole.
