Article Abstract:
Synapses of pyramidal cells on multipolar interneurons in rat neocortex were selected to determine the contribution of polyamine (PA)-dependent facilitation to short-term plasticity of synaptic transmission. Activity-dependent relief from polyamine block of postsynaptic calcium-permeable AMPARs in the interneurons can either reduce paired-pulse depression in a frequency-dependent way, or induce facilitation of synaptic response.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to identify a dsRNA adenosine deaminase capable of catalyzing Q/R-site editing. A rat-brain cDNA library ws screened using low-stringency hybridization with a DNA probe for the catalytic dsRNA-dependent adenosine deaminase. RED1, a dsRNA adenosine deaminase expressed in brain and peripheral tissues, was determined as a potential candidate for editing the GluR-B Q/R site in central neurons.

Research is presented concerning the editing of mammalian transcripts by site-selective adenosine deamination. The importance of the alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionate receptor is discussed.
