Phosphorylation and regulation of glutamate receptors by calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II

Article Abstract:

The role of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaM-K II), the major postsynaptic density (PSD) protein at glutaminergic synapses, in the regulation of glutamate receptors (GluRs) was investigated. GluRs are involved in excitatory synaptic transmission, learning and memory. The results showed that CaM-K II phosphorylates GluR, suggesting a key role for PSD CaM-K II in synaptic plasticity via enhancement of postsynaptic GluR responses.

Postsynaptic translation affects the efficacy and morphology of neuromuscular junctions

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the effect of structural rearrangements which occur inside the neuronal circuitry on long-term synaptic plasticity. The molecular mechanisms which control this activity are discussed.
