Peripheral deletion of antigen-reactive T cells in oral tolerance

Article Abstract:

The antigen-reactive cells, Th1 and Th2, are activated by high doses of oral antigens, an activation which then induces their deletion in Peyer's patches in mice which are transgenic for the ovalbumin-specific T-cell receptor genes. This deletion is due to apoptosis and depends on the antigen feeding frequency and dose. However, at low doses instead of deletion, antigen-specific cells, which form the transforming growth factor, interleukin-4 and Il-10 cytokines, are produced. Thus, the orally induced tolerance is created not only by suppression but also by deletion of the T cells.

CD8 modulation of T-cell antigen receptor-ligand interactions on living cytotoxic T lymphocytes

Article Abstract:

The heterodimeric alpha beta CD8 strengthens the avidity of the TCR-ligand cytotoxic T cells. The strengthening is mediated by coordinate binding present in the ligand molecules of CD8 and TCR. The CD8 is capable of functioning as a coreceptor, which enables the modulation of the ability of CD8 to strengthen the CD8-TCR reactions.

Negative regulation of T-cell activation and autoimmunity by Mgat5 N-glycosylation

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the influence which a deficiency of Beta1,6 N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase V has in the reduction of the activation of T-cells. The development of kidney autoimmune disease by Mgat deficient mice is discussed.
