Article Abstract:
The subarctic Pacific halocline developed at the same time as the glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere nearly 3 million years ago. This would have reduced atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration in a similar way to the effect of the stratification of the Antarctic surface ocean during the Pleistocene glacial periods.

Article Abstract:
Attention is given to the temperature requirements of continental glaciation to explain the initiation of the major Northern Hemisphere glaciation 2.7 million years ago. The long held view of the temperature requirement of glaciation is consistent with the timing of the onset of Northern Hemisphere glaciation.
