Article Abstract:
Neruegulins (NRGs) are a group of multipotent epidermal-growth-factor-like (EGF) factors arising from single gene splicing, having an affect on growth, differentiation and survival of cell types. Neuregulin-2 (NRG-2) is a group of new NRG like growth factors, encoded by their own gene and showing distinct expression patterns in the brain and heart. Sites of NRG-2 expression were analysed through northern blotting, messenger RNA samples from rat tissues. It was found that NRG-1 and NRG-2 act at different tissue sites, causing different biochemical cell responses.

Article Abstract:
The receptor protein-tyrosine kinases of the mammalian Tyro 3 family and their ligands are vital regulators of Sertoli-cell function. These receptors have been shown to act additively or in combination. It is possible that their combined activation in Sertoli cells is needed for the production of the germ-cell trophins that these cells must produce. The actual ligands for Tyro 3 family receptors could be hybrid molecules of Gas6 or protein S bound to testosterone or, in other cells, other steroids.

Article Abstract:
Analysis of a particular type of neuregulin receptor, which is ErbB4, shows its essential role in cardiac muscle differentiation and the rational operation of the central nervous system. The ErbB4 is the most functionally autonomous of the neuregulin receptors. Its effect on mice is seen, for example, during embryogenesis when its absence causes death because of cardiac malfunction.
