Article Abstract:
The potential functional role of mast cells in the establishment of regulatory T ([T.sub.Reg])-cell-mediated allograft tolerance is examined. It is confirmed that tolerant allografts acquire a unique genetic signature dominated by the expression of mast-cell-gene products, and data indicate that interleukin (IL)-9, a mast cell growth and activation factor, is the functional link through which activated [T.sub.Reg] cells recruit and activate mast cells to mediate regional immune regulation.

Article Abstract:
The study describes a taxa-area relationship for bacteria over a scale of centimeters to hundreds of meters in salt marsh sediments. It concluded that bacterial communities located close together were more similar in composition than communities located farther apart, and used the decay of community similarity with distance to show that bacteria can exhibit a taxa-area relationship.

Article Abstract:
The integrated genome-scale computational model of a transcriptional regulatory and metabolic network is examined. The model is useful for the identification of knowledge gaps and previously unknown components and for interactions in the regulatory and metabolic networks.
