Making the right connections

Article Abstract:

Genetic research involving the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster has yielded new information about synaptogenesis or synaptic development. Kendal Broadie and Michael Bate investigated the consequences of total body-wall denervation on the muscle cells of embryonic flies. The results show that the control of neurotransmitter receptors in muscle cells by fly motor neurons was strikingly similar to what prevails among the vertebrates.
