Legislative progress for animals: state by state, vote by vote

Article Abstract:

A summary of state laws against cruelty to animals is presented. Anti-cruelty laws in the US go as far back as 1641, and all 50 states now have such laws that vary greatly in quality and scope. Enforcement of the laws is often weak, and animal activists should attempt to influence enforcement and call for stronger laws.
