Interaction between Wnt and TGF-beta signalling pathways during formation of Spemann's organizer

Article Abstract:

It has been demonstrated that beta-catenin and Lef1/Tcf, downstream elements of the Wnt signalling cascade, create a complex with Smad4, a vital mediator of signals initiated by members of the TGF-beta grown factor superfamily. This research has proposed a model in which Smad4 forms a complex with Lef1/Tcf and beta-catenin to bind to the Xtwn promoter region. There is no evidence at present in Drosophila to support the view that Smad4 (Medea) is a necessary element of Wnt signalling.

Myc but not Fos rescue of PDGF signalling block caused by kinase-inactive Src

Article Abstract:

Constitutive expression of the Myc gene rescues the block to DNA synthesis induced by dominant negative Src (SrcK-). The Fos gene rescues the block elicited by dominant negative Ras. Src kinase regulates the transcriptional activation of Myc. Researchers injected SrcK- and Myc together into NIH-3T3 cells and determined that Myc was able to prevail over the SrcK- arrest.
