Article Abstract:
The qde-1 gene encodes a putative protein homologous to an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP). This finding provides experimental evidence for the involvement of an RdRP in post-transcriptional gene silencing. The fact that homologous genes are conserved in many different species suggests that gene-silencing mechanisms could be present in a wide range of organisms. However, the presence of a number of paralogous RdRP genes in the same organism could also show that these proteins have clearly specialized functions and may be involved in other cellular processes.

Article Abstract:
It is shown that the differentially methylated region (DMR) in the imprinted Igf2r gene is required for imprinting and includes a 113-base pair sequence, constituting a methylation imprinting box. Two new cis-acting elements of the box have been identified, that bind specific proteins. This regulatory system is believed to be involved in creating differential methylation in the Igf2r DMR.

Article Abstract:
DNA methylation in neurospora crassa requires dim-5 and it was found that replacement of lysine 9 in histone H3 with leucine or arginine phenocopies the dim-5 mutation.
