Article Abstract:
New research has located the regions of the human brain involved in the sense of smell. Positron emission tomography was employed to locate these olfactory regions in 11 test subjects by detecting areas of increased cerebral blood flow after exposure to various odors. Bilateral blood flow where the inferior frontal and temporal lobes join and unilateral flow on the right side of the orbitofrontal cortex bear out previous findings that these parts of the brain comprise the olfactory system.

Article Abstract:
A family of receptors, the TRBs, are specifically expressed in taste receptor cells in the mouth that detect gustatory stimuli. It is anticipated that there will be many further TRB genes beyond the 11 identified on chromosomes 12, 5 and 7.
