Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the failure of the human immune system to effectively control the HIV virus. Mutations which arise in HIV viral proteins which are under attack from the immune system are discussed.

Evolution and transmission of stable CTL escape mutations in HIV infection

Research is presented concerning the behavior of cytotoxic T lymphocyte escape mutations which have been shown to accumulate as an HIV epidemic progresses. The implications for the design of vaccines are discussed.
