Effects of altered gene order or orientation of the locus control region on human beta-globin gene expression mice
Article Abstract:
The functional consequences of the the organization of human beta-type-globin genes are investigated with regard to temporal regulation of the individual genes. The position of the epsilon-globin gene adjacent to the locus control region (LCR) is mandatory for expression during yolk-sac stage fo erythropoiesis. Simple inversion of the human genes or the LCR thus alters the transcription of beta-type globin genes.

Therapeutic haemoglobin synthesis in beta-thalassaemic mice expressing lentivirus-encoded human beta-globin
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the treatment of sickle-cell disease and beta-thalassaemia through the introduction of lentivirus-encoded beta-globin into haematopoietic stem cells. The benefits to patients with haemoglobin production defects is discussed.

Mice lacking the M3 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor are hypophagic and lean
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the physiological functions which are controlled by the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor family (M1-M5). The influence of M3 on the appetite and fat deposition of mice is discussed.
