Empathic neural responses are modulated by the perceived fairness of others

Article Abstract:

Empathic neural responses are modulated by learned preferences, which is consistent with economic models of social preferences. The results show that in men emphatic responses are shaped by valuation of other people's social behavior, which indicates a predominant role for males in the maintenance of justice and punishment norm violation in human societies.

Dopamine-dependent prediction errors underpin reward-seeking behavior in humans

Article Abstract:

A functional link between the neurotransmitter dopamine, cortico-striatal activity and reward-seeking behavior in humans is examined by administration of L-DOPA drugs to study the effects of dopamine on striatal regulation. Findings suggest that humans use dopamine-dependent prediction errors to guide their decisions, and that dopamine modulates the apparent value of rewards as represented in the striatum.
