Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on conservation efforts aimed at preserving Borderea chouardii, a Tertiary relict plant. Discussion addresses persistent or episodic disease, decrease or enhancement of plant recruitment, and population reduction. The impact of the plant's long life span versus its slow recovery capacity on conservation efforts is also examined.

Alterations of Steppe-Like Grasslands in Eastern Europe: a Threat to Regional Biodiversity Hotspots

A rotational grassland conservation management program is recommended to prevent further loss of steppe-like grasslands in the Transylvanian region of Romania. The program would maintain different seral stages and prevent succession to Pinus and mature forest.

Findings comparing World Conservation Union Red List data and Missouri Botanical Garden gazetteer show that the status of the Madagascar Coleeae may be more endangered than currently assumed. Research processes are described and implications are discussed.
