Circadian oscillation of a mammalian homologue of the Drosophila period gene

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to identify the human and mouse genes (hPER and mPer respectively) that encode PAS-domain-containing polypeptides that are extremely homologous to Period (dPer) protein. PAS is a dimerization domain that exists in Per, Amt and Sim. This research work allowed two mammalian circadian clock mutants to be established. These are tau in the hamster and Clock in the mouse. The mammalian homologues of Clock and Per should allow the identification of molecules that make up the circadian clock.

Genetic linkage of ecological specialization and reproductive isolation in pea aphids

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the ecological specification which has evolved in the very specialized host races of Acyrthosiphon pisum pisum, the pea aphid. The occurrence of several pleiotropic complexes is discussed.
