Chromatin organization and cell fate switch respond to positional information in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

The three-dimensional fluorescence in situ hybridization on intact root epidermal tissue is used to show that alternative states of chromatin organization around the homoeodomain transcription factor GLABRA2 (GL2) locus are required to control position-dependent cell-type specification. The results show that chromatin organization integrates positional cues with gene expression programs to direct cell fate specification and also that the chromatin state can be reset and remodelled each cell cycle during development.

Molecular characterization of Ph1 as a major chromosome pairing locus in polyploid wheat

Article Abstract:

The foundation of western civilization owes much to the high fertility of bread wheat, which results the stability of its polyploid genome. The correlation of the presence of this structure with Ph1 activity in related species, and the involvement of heterochromatin with Ph1 and cdc2 genes with meiosis, makes the structure a good candidate for the Ph1 locus.

The Ph1 locus is needed to ensure specific somatic and meiotic centromere association

Article Abstract:

Research exploring the relevance of segregation and pairing of chromosomes during meiosis to the levels of genetic fertility is presented. It is demonstrated that the Ph1 locus is responsible for the specificity of the centromere association.
