France's Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) issued a press statement that undermines a research team's much publicized conclusion on embryo freezing. The research results stated that embryo freezing affects embryo development, demanding the reevaluation of the safety of artifical reproductive procedures in humans. CNRS claims that the conclusions are inadequate and hence the publicity is not justified.

The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) has issued a report which heavily criticises public research agencies in France. The report, entitled Ethics and Scientific Institutions, accuses administrative heads of political corruption. Science administration representatives are furious with the CNRS for making judgements of this kind and say that the report steps outside the COMETS committee's jurisdiction.

The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) of France, a top research agency, will boost funding for its 1,300 laboratories. This will be achieved through spending cuts at large science facilities and strategic research programmes. Some 425 new posts will be created at the agency . The national Saturn accelerator near Paris will close at the end of the year and funding for Ganil will be reduced.
