Assessing the helicopter and net gun as a capture technique for white-tailed deer

Article Abstract:

The type and frequency of injuries sustained during the helicopter and net-gun capture and the effects of capture on survival or radiocollared deer are examined. The helicopter and net gun are shown to be a safe capture method when compared to other methods, which are based on capture-related injuries, mortalities and postcapture survival.

Dispersal by yearling male white-tailed deer and implications for management

Article Abstract:

Dispersal and home-range size of yearling male white-tailed deer in southern Texas are measured and the results are compared to values from the literature to understand the implications of dispersal in management of deer populations. Dispersal and home-range size define the scale of landscape use for many large-mammal species.
