Activation of the transcription factor MEF2C by the MAP kinase p38 in inflammation

Article Abstract:

A link between the intracellular signalling pathway p38 and a member of the myocyte-enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) group of transcription factors is established to help identify the proteins with functions regulated by p38-catalyzed phosphorylation. It was found that lipopolysaccharide increases the transactivation activity of MEF2C(supra 10-12) in monocytic cells. This shows that p38 may influence host defense and inflammation by maintaining the balance of c-Jun protein consumed during infection.

Evidence from the Pacific troposphere for large global sources of oxygenated organic compounds

Article Abstract:

Research into the composition and source of oxygenated organic compounds in the Southern Hemisphere is discussed. The study suggests that the sources of the compounds could include emissions from terrestrial vegetation and the photochemical degradation of organic matter in oceans.

Molecular classification of cutaneous malignant melanoma by gene expression profiling

Article Abstract:

Research describing the use of mathematical analysis of gene expression to identify a subset of melanomas is presented. Unrecognized subtypes of cutaneous melanoma can be identified by global transcript analysis.
