A methanotropic carnivorous sponge

Article Abstract:

The Cladorhiza sponge has been observed in a symbiosis with methanotropic bacteria, providing nutritional supplements to its carnivorous diet of swimming prey. The distribution and vales of sigma-13C in the sponge indicates that it absorbs nutrition from the symbionts intercellular digestion while the condition of the bacteria indicates a mutual nutritional relationship.
