A crystal structure determined with 0.02 angstrom accuracy by electron microscopy

Article Abstract:

Accurate crystal structure determination of Ti11Se4 involves the use of high-resolution electron microscopy. Crystallographic image processing and X-ray powder data allow the structure refinement. The atoms show a shift of 0.2 angstroms on refinement. The presence of alternating two and four condensed octahedral chains in every second layer, and the type of octahedral distortions in Ti11Se4 crystals are similar to those in Ti8Se3. The crystals have a Ti content of 72(1) atomic % and a C2/m symmetry.

Structure at 2.8 angstrom resolution of cytochrome c oxidase from Paracoccus denitrificans

Article Abstract:

Structural analysis of four protein subunits containing cytochrome c oxidase from the soil bacterium Paracoccus denitrificans aids in understanding the molecular mechanisms of oxygen reduction and proton pumping. The crystal structure of the protein was resolved to 2.8 anstroms by x-ray crystallography. Two proton transfer pathways were identified.

Structure of fumarate reductase from Wolinella succinogenes at 2.2A resolution

Article Abstract:

The structure of the anaerobic bacterium Wolinella succinogenes quinol:fumarate reductases (QFR) containing two haem groups has been determined at 2.2A resolution, using x-ray crystallography. The overall structure of the complex is described and a pathway of electron transfer and and a mechanism of fumarate reduction is proposed.
