Article Abstract:
The molecular studies of tunicate development have shown that genetic programmes for early embryonic patterning changes radically during evolution, but retains the fundamental chordate body plan. The experiments with amphioxus and vertebrates have helped in understanding the relationship of developmental constraints and rates of genome evolution against a background of conservation of the fundamental chordate body plan.

Article Abstract:
A demonstration that the interaction between wild-type Stim and Orai, assessed by coimmunoprecipitation, is greatly enhanced after treatment with thapsigargin to induce [Ca.sup.2+] store depletion is presented. Results reveal that Orai itself forms the [Ca.sup.2+]-selectivity filter of the [Ca.sup.2+] relase-activated [Ca.sup.2+] (CRAC) channel.
