A biologist's perspective on the role of sustainable harvest in conservation

Article Abstract:

The concept of sustainable harvest has been too often equated with effective conservation, but the former is often opposed to the latter. Studies do not support long-term harvests of natural resources, and harvest systems are only narrowly applicable. Without an objective, holistic view of harvest techniques, old-growth ecosystems and species will continue to move toward extinction.
