A bid for scientific greatness

Article Abstract:

Japan plans to provide generous federal aid to encourage fundamental scientific research to make amends for the negligence shown in the past. The Ministry of Finance plans to invest $155 billion during a five year plan for the advancement of science and technology in general; and in biotechnology, gene therapy, and computer networking software in particular. State policy requires drastic reforms to generate more employment opportunities in the field of scientific research. An independent body is needed to ensure accountability and proper usage of funds.

Gravity passes a little test

Article Abstract:

Isaac Newton's inverse-square law of gravity is well established on scales as large as the Solar System. A new experimental confirmation of its validity has huge implications on new physics, which indicates that the gravitational forces between laboratory masses separated by as little as 55 [mu]m are consistent with Newton's law.

Poetry and science: Greatness in little

Article Abstract:

The different ways in which poetry and science can mutually inspire each other are described with the help of two poems including Greatness in Little by English poet Richard Leigh. The subject of the poem is biomimetics, which is of great interest to scientists and can serve as a manifesto for science.
