Malign neglect or benign respect: women's health care in a carceral setting

Article Abstract:

Examination of carceral conditions through the critical lens of the female inmate is done by conducting semi-structured interviews with jailed women. The availability and quality of health care in a detention center in Arizona is investigated, which indicate a contentious duality, exposing both heinous neglect and benign solicitude in the care delivered to jailed women.

It's a family affair: incarcerated women and their families

Article Abstract:

Oklahoma has the highest rate of female incarceration in the US, and most inmates surveyed reported dependent children living with them prior to sentencing. Many such children are placed with foster families that have histories of abuse, suggesting policymakers reconsider placement practices.

Role strain and incarcerated mothers: understanding the process of mothering

Article Abstract:

A survey of 109 incarcerated mothers at a minimum-security prison is conducted. It concludes that involving them in mothering activities reduces the role strain on them and maintains the parental relationship during incarceration.
