Many of the most recognizable writers in American literature have lived in Chicago, IL, but many contemporary writers are not well known. Most of the famous writers were in Chicago from about 1893 to 1933. Mass media and information technology have lessened the importance of written material.

Article Abstract:

Butterfield was a rarity as a white blues artist during the 1950s and 1960s, and he helped to introduce white audiences to the genre. By the mid-1970s, Butterfield had descended into drug abuse and alcoholism, which ruined his career and eventually took his life.
