A young female Eskimo pilot recounts her adventures as she brings freight and mail from Barrow, AK, to the state's remote towns. The dangers of flying cannot compare with the satisfaction the pilot gets as she ferries people, cargo and mail to their destinations.

Artist Fred Machetanz is discussed with emphasis on his paintings of Alaska. Machetanz could not afford to make a living out of art alone until 1962 when he was 54, but in 2000 his works can sell for up to $30 000.
