The monster that will drink the Danube

Article Abstract:

The Danube River has lost much of its natural beauty because of a dam system designed by Communist rulers to provide electricity in Hungary and Czechoslovakia. Austria will lose much of the electricity the river generates. Construction of the dam system is described.

Wilderness in the balance

Some endangered species are making strong comebacks and are beginning to threaten the ecological balance in Western lands. There is controversy over reintroducing the the Rocky Mountain gray wolf and the mountain lion. The overpopulation of deer is an also a problem.
