Brazilian airline Gol has taken over Varig airlines in a cash-and-stock deal worth around $275 million. Suspension of the issuance of new tourism and air operation permits are considered by UNESCO and Ecuador as protection measures for the Galapagos islands. Other relevant developments in the tourism industry in Latin America are also presented.
