For a shotgun to be useful as a home defense weapon, it must have features that make it easy to use in home defense situations. Desirable features include barrel length of 18 to 20 inches, smooth cycling in pump-action guns, reliable performance in semi-automatic guns, and positive safety engagement that is clearly engaged.

Article Abstract:

During the past 25 years, the introduction of high-intensity, hand-held and gun-mounted lights had a dramatic impact on the tactics available to handle low-light encounters. Before handgun light mounts were common, differing methods were developed for combining a handgun in one hand and a powerful light in the other.
