The Klondike gold rush from 1897-98 was full of numerous tales. Family members left for the frozen Alaskan interior without sufficient knowledge of their destination. The mining town lifestyle and the overall economic effects of the gold discovery are examined.

Gold panning remains popular in Alaska as it is lucrative and prospectors can avail of a number of services available for their kind. There is much gold in the region as geologists estimate the only 5% has been recovered that people still flock to the region.
