Article Abstract:

The Metropolitan Opera commissioned Philip Glass to produce a new opera for the Quincentenary of Columbus. Glass' opera, 'The Voyage,' does not treat Columbus literally but contains fantastic elements. David Henry Hwang wrote the libretto. 'The Voyage' will debut in 1992.
