Article Abstract:

Investment in leisure property has been a driving force behind other commercial property developments in Birmingham, England. One of the most significant schemes currently planned in Birmingham is Arena Central, which will involve the redevelopment of 14 acres and the construction of facilities including offices, a cinema and restaurants. This scheme takes its inspiration from Barcelona, Spain, as well as from other cities. Considerable efforts are being made to ensure that leisure facilities are within easy reach of residential areas.

Reaching the peak

Recent research shows that leisure is the dominant area of the economy, with leisure spending outstripping other expenditure in the family budget. An analysis of the leisure property sector supports the improvements, with growth in rental values and buoyant development activity. However, there is growing concern that the industry is reaching its peak in the UK and mainland Europe may offer better rewards for investors.
