The company was formed in 1994 and has developed its leisure concept, base don the American idea of location-based entertainment centres, to suit the demands of both UK and European markets. A typical Screen Works leisure facility might include a cinema, a health club, lifestyle retailing, amusements, a nightclub and children's facilities. All new sites are expected to be in town centres or on the edges of towns.

The results of Mintel's research into the number of pubs and the level of pub attendance in the United Kingdom are presented. Issues concerning the revenue of pubs from drinks and promotions are discussed. It is emphasized that frequenting pubs is a favourite leisure activity in Britain.

The results of the Mintel survey of the state of the UK cinema market are presented. Admissions increased by 21% from 1995 to 1999 and the number of multiplex cinemas increased at the expense of traditional town centre cinemas.
