Article Abstract:

The CEO and Chmn of American Airlines, Robert Crandall, has warned European Union, tourism and aviation industry representatives that an open market in Europe is crucial for the future success of its air transportation. Crandall said that changes are necessary because not enough investment has gone into the upgrading of existing airport facilities, and that little planning has been done for further capacity. Crandall also blaimed state aids, monopolies and lack of open skies agreements for the slow progress towards liberalisation.
