BA deal puts air under spotlight

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has announced that it is to investigate the proposed alliance between British Airways and American Airlines and a number of other transatlantic agreements. Although the EC does not plan on restricting reorganisation within the airline industry, it does intend to monitor deals which may have an effect on EU business and markets. Other agreements which have come under EU scrutiny include Swissair/Sabena; Lufthansa/SAS; and British Aerospace/ATR.

Inside Europe: is out-of-date data better than none?

Article Abstract:

There is no reliable and accurate statistical tourism information according to Hotrec, representative of the hotel and catering industry. Progress on producing better EU tourism statistics is slow but a new publication from the European Commission, Tourism in Europe, is said to offer reliable and comparable statistical information. However it is based largely on out of date data.
