Article Abstract:
The UK Millennium Experience is being developed on a 300 acre wasteland site in Greenwich, London, UK. The centrepiece is a massive dome which will provide an all-weather cover for an area of 20 acres and will showcase the best creative work of British designers. Organisers expect nearly 40,000 visitors a day, with rail access being provided by an extended Jubilee Line and improved road connections. The Millennium site will be continually developed after the exhibition to provide local amenities, industry and housing. The roof of the dome is expected to be erected during summer 1998.

The Department of National Heritage (DNH) policy document, Tourism - Competing with the Best, has raised little enthusiasm or controversy. Responses to the document have concentrated on individual policies. Government support fo tourism had reached its lowest level prior to the publication of the report, but he BTA and ETB have been forging stronger links with the DNH, giving tourism a higher profile.
