The 1995 Business In Sport and Leisure (BISL) attracted around 200 delegates from all areas of the leisure industry, and a wide range of issues was discussed. These included gambling, with John Garrett, managing director of the Recreation Division of Rank Organisation calling for reform of the 1968 Gaming Act to create fairer conditions for the gambling industry. Labour party spokesman for national heritage Mark Fisher talked about the future of leisure under the Labour party.

There is now a growing feeling that simulator films need to become more exciting and interesting, having a content which is both more creative and more imaginative. However, the fact that simulators rely on a high throughput to boost profit levels means that films tend to be very short, giving little scope for variations in pace in the story. New directions for simulator films are now being considered, including increased links with Hollywood.

As the United Kingdom begins to recover from the 2001 foot and mouth crisis, and attempts are made to reopen the countryside to maintain tourism in the affected regions, local authorities are using the opportunity to improve hiking trails and facilities. This should boost local economies in the long run.
