Picking your team

Article Abstract:

Staff must be highly motivated if a successful team is to be achieved in the leisure industry. Each member of the team should have the appropriate skills and attitude for the job and should be able to attend to customer needs during long working days. Key skills such as arithmetic, team work, anatomy and swimming could be tested as a means of identifying whether the individual has the necessary physical ability. Personalities within the team must mix well together.

Article Abstract:

The Lifestyles Fitness Suite, which opened recently in Liverpool, UK, is the result of a renovation from an old gym. It now features modern and attractive fittings and has attracted many members. It has run a number of membership promotions, and has established a GP referral scheme from a nearby doctor's practice. It has placed emphasis on friendly staff and training, and works hard to ensure that people enjoy attending.

Stakis makes assertive move into health clubs

Article Abstract:

UK hotel and casino concern Stakis is looking to establish a strong presence in the health and fitness sector too. This is reflected in the fact that it recently invested almost 20 million pounds sterling in the purchase of LivingWell Health and Leisure, which currently owns five health clubs. Stakis already has 25 health clubs within its hotels, and plans to open six independent clubs a year over the next few years.
