Article Abstract:

The National Training Organisation for Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations has been chosen as as one of the first National Training Organisations (NTO). The role of the NTO is to ensure that staff in the leisure industry have the opportunity to update their skills, while ensuring that employers work towards nationally agreed standards, such as NVQ. This philosophy of life-long learning has been endorsed by the Labour government. National traineeships will focus on NVQ qualifications and the Welfare to Work scheme will also encourage young people to consider training.

The Quest for quality

Article Abstract:

In the UK, the Quest quality scheme has been designed for the sports and leisure industry and is designed to improve the quality of customer service. The initiative has evolved from the BS 5750 quality scheme and is funded by the UK's Sports Councils. Quest is designed to be a management tool, using self-assessment techniques and external assessors. The scheme is managed by Associated Quality Services.
