Leisure is one of the fastest growing sectors of the British economy, with leisure spending amounting to 60 billion pounds sterling in 1999. The sector's growth can be attributed to high levels of capital investment and high levels of productivity. Investment in leisure amounted to more than 4 billion pounds sterling in 1999, with the single most important factor being the development of new leisure retail brands.
