Leisure companies are advised to use financial services in order to reduce costs. Encouraging customers to pay membership subscriptions by direct debit can result in lower costs and offers cash flow projection advantages. Members can be given incentives to pay in this way. Other possibilities include an internal charge card, which enables customers to leave cash at home, but still spend on sports goods and refreshments.

Issues concerning the disappearance of the local government leisure services are discussed, with particular focus on legislative and structural conditions generating the change. It is emphasized that the cost of leisure activities run by corporate companies can be unaffordable by the poor.
