Article Abstract:
Mixed retail and leisure developments are becoming increasingly common in the UK. This mix has roots in the markets of the Middle Ages, and more recent formats include theme parks, but the common assumption that leisure mixes naturally with retail is debatable. Developers must understand that the two sectors have their own characteristics which can be in conflict with one another. Developing leisure facilities in prime city centre areas also misses the potential for leisure developments to revitalize decaying areas of the city.

Article Abstract:
A third generation of leisure property developments is beginning to become established in the UK. These developments are associated with a growing recognition that there are a number of benefits associated with the idea of a cultural or entertainment quarter in cities and large towns. There are several intensive urban mixed use developments now being planned or just beginning construction. These include St Anne's Quarter in Leeds, England, where there are leisure facilities such as restaurants, a hotel and a multiplex.

Article Abstract:
Leisure facility sound systems may be required for general announcements, background music or emergency evacuation. Selection criteria should include equipment quality, low running costs and ease of operation. Systems range from one microphone, loudspeaker and amplifier and design is determined by required functions. Recorded messages may be incorporated into some systems. However, accoustics may affect sound quality.
