The process of tendering for contracts is expensive and frustrating for design firms. Businesses should establish new procedures which are fair to tendering companies. A company may spend over 5,000 pounds sterling responding to one tender, which is particularly prohibitive for small companies. It is fair practice for a client to seek credentials, and the provision of these is not too difficult, but the client should ask only three or four firms to cost their services, and be prepared to pay fees for the work involved.

Article Abstract:

The Internet is a medium with exciting and extensive possibilities, but the potential communicator should be aware of a number of issues. The limited band-width available to the Internet restricts the sophistication of the presentation, and it cannot equal what is possible on a CD-ROM. The design of Internet pages is very important. As in all presentations the visual image is very valuable, and it is worth investing in the skills of a trained graphics designer. Possible future developments in the Internet are listed.

Running out of time

Article Abstract:

Many projects being undertaken by the UK attractions industry are designed to open in the year 2000. This means that strong emphasis must be placed on time management, and in some cases issues such as design are being neglected. It is important to recognize that talent, skill and experience must play a key role in projects undertaken by the attractions industry. It is still not too late to ensure that schemes designed for the year 2000 reflect these qualities.
