IAAPA summer meeting

Article Abstract:

The IAAPA 1998 conference comprised of a visit to four theme parks in California. Disneyland had good rides but felt overcrowded, the catering facilities needed to be improved. Customer service was found to be a high standard at the Six Flags over California park. The park had several white knuckle rides. Hurricane Park was aimed at families and included a water park. Knott's Berry Farm had the best services and a variety of rides. Universal Studios was undergoing some renovation work and further work was felt to be necessary. Some 380 delegates visited the conference.

Article Abstract:

The Butlins holiday camp in Bognor Regis, England, offers very good value for money, as it has a wide range of facilities and entertainments. The accommodation is compact but comfortable. Extensive investment has been made in upgrading the camp's facilities, and there is now an all-weather dome known as the Skyline Pavilion. This offers attractions including tenpin bowling, bars, shops and branded restaurants. Splash, the indoor sub-tropical water world, has proved very popular with visitors.

Number crunching

Article Abstract:

Many leisure facilities have traditional catering areas, but many not be doing enough to meet growing demand for snack foods. It is worth setting up a special snack section, mixing mainstream nuts, crisps, sweets and chocolate, where profit margins tend to be low, with more unusual products with higher profit margins. Many manufacturers now offer free mechandising material and will lend out display equipment.
