Article Abstract:

Three competing groups are awaiting news from the UK Sports Council after submitting proposals to site the British Academy of Sport in Britain. Consortiums Sheffield, Central and Heyford are each certain of winning the right to house the high profile facilities. Relative advantages for each site are discussed. The decision, which also depends upon the Department of National Heritage, may be made in Mar. 1997.

Issues are presented concerning the licensing and Sunday opening laws in the United Kingdom. The anger of operators who are unable to trade on Millennium Eve, because it falls on a Sunday, is discussed.
