Traditional British pubs are standing firm against the challenge from bars and themed pubs, according to Unique Pub Co Chief Executive Giles Thorley. His company has developed rapidly, becoming the leading independent pub leasing concern in the UK, with an estate of around 2,600 outlets. Thorley strongly believes that the tied-lease house sector can be very profitable, and emphasizes that his company's approach allows beer brands to be judged solely on their own merits, with the retailer having the freedom to choose on the basis of customer needs.
